For the second post in our Simple Strategy Series, we are focusing on physical wellness.
When we think about physical self-care, we often picture intense workouts or long hikes. While these are all great habits, they can feel overwhelming when you’re already struggling. The good news? Small, manageable strategies can still make a big difference.
One simple way to support your body is by stretching for just 30 seconds a couple of times a day. Stretching helps reduce pain and stiffness, improves posture, increases blood flow, and boosts mobility. At first, it may not seem like much, but over time, you’ll start to feel the benefits. As your body moves more easily, you may even find that you have more energy to engage in activities that currently feel exhausting.
But what about when there’s a crisis? In stressful moments, it can be hard to prioritize movement. The common suggestion is to take some deep calming breaths - which is great! But I want to offer you another strategy. Try drinking a glass of water with some lemon.
If you don’t like lemon, try a flavored water enhancer or herbal tea that you enjoy. The key is hydration – but be mindful of caffeinated drinks like coffee and non-herbal teas, which can further dehydrate your body.
When we’re under stress, we often forget to drink water, leading to dehydration. This triggers the release of hormones like cortisol and vasopressin, which increase our stress levels, decrease our mood, and affect our general health. By staying hydrated, you’re giving your body the support it needs to handle tough moments more effectively.
